DESIGN FOR PEOPLE.
Bronfenbrenner Ecological Theory divided a person's environment into five different systems that affect every aspect of their lives: the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem, the macrosystem, and the chronosystem. Adopting this outlook has changed my approach to design.
I spend most of my time thinking about the role of interiors in humans’ lives within a nested context. We live in buildings that are housed in neighborhoods, cities, and our mother earth. Our interiors, our most intimate and immediate environments, are affected by climate, politics, culture, beliefs, etc. A bi-directional process is constantly take place between all of this concentric circles.
How can we design environments that are sensitive to all of those factors? How can we create environments that promote thriving for all in a very diverse world? How can we promote stewardship in design?
DESIGN IS THE MELTING POT OF ALL DISCIPLINES
RESEARCH.
If we just design spaces without evaluating their impact, we are operating from a place of ego, not a place of service. Interior design is a service to humankind.
“Interior designers create interior environments that support people’s physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being; and assist with or contribute to their financial or economic management, success, and responsibility.”
TEACHING
Preparing environmentally and socially conscious future designers is essential to saving our planet and promoting our human thriving.
“Hassnaa is super knowledgeable about the field of design… she is very good at pushing her students to do their best work”

DESIGN.
Using research, ethical reasoning, and technical skills is how I come up with interiors that promote the well-being, safety, and welfare of their occupants…
“Interior designers create interior environments that support people’s soundness of body and mind; protect their physical, mental, and social well-being; and prevent disease, injury, illness, or pain that could be caused by occupancy of interior environments.”
